A blood oath of friendship is a ritual bonding of two people by blood which must be enacted by someone with initiate mastery. It is an unbreakable oath of protection with ties to the living spirit.
Arithon's Blood Oath with Jieret
After the failed coronation at Etarra, Arithon swears a blood oath with Jieret s'Valerient. His reasoning for this oath is to ensure that Jieret survives the coming war to carry on the s'Valerient line. Later, during the Battle of Strakewood, Arithon is in a trance managing his maze of shadows when Jieret sees the disaster involving Teynie. Arithon doesn't hear Jieret or feel his touch, but the blood oath rouses him anyhow. In the grotto, Arithon succumbs to the curse of the Mistwraith and tries to destroy his half-brother. Jieret's blood oath is the only thread that allows him to keep his sanity.
During the Werpoint affair, when Arithon is lost to the curse, Jieret can experience Arithon's madness through the blood pact.
Arithon's Blood Oath to Asandir
In the aftermath of the Werpoint affair, Asandir flags down Arithon on the beaches of Athir and swears him to a blood oath to survive at all costs. This course of action is urged by Kharadmon who realized the threat posed by the Mistwraith still trapped on Marak.
|"Whatever atrocities its curse may bring to pass, to spare humanity, your birth-born talents must be preserved for the future. Who dies and who lives cannot be made to matter before necessity as broad scale as that."
Vhandon and Talvish's Blood Oath to Dakar
When Parrien orders Arithon's leg to be broken to prevent interference in a plot at the Riverton shipyard, he orders Vhandon and Talvish to swear blood oath to Dakar to defend Arithon for as long as they are fit to bear arms, or until the curse of the Mistwraith is broken.
Arithon's Blood Oath to Jeynsa
As promised to Jieret, Arithon swears a blood oath to Jeynsa s'Valerient. Because of her hostility, Arithon goads her into an attack with a dagger to begin the ritual.
|Your self: as my own. Your breath: twined with mine. Two bodies: one flesh for this lifetime. Your spirit to my heart: bound unto death. Dharkaron as my dark witness, my Word as sealed by my Name in Ath's light, none to sunder. Yours to call, mine to answer, until the Wheel of Fate grants one of us crossing. Anient.
Jeynsa does not reciprocate on this oath, preventing Arithon from reaching out to her ethically when she is endangered at Alestron.
