There are five sets of crown jewels, one for each High Kingdom of Men on Athera. The crown jewels were created by the gem-cutters of Imarn Adaer, and are focus stones which attune to the heir of each royal line. The arcane properties of these stones are held in trust for future generations of heirs.

The crown jewels of Rathain are emeralds.

Role in the Story

Spoiler warning: Contains plot elements from multiple books in the series.

The Decoy

Third Age 5018: Falion sen Ardhai answers the Fellowship call to become the next s'Ilessid High King of Tysan. He wields the crown jewels in defense against the Mistwraith and dies on the line when the Mistwraith smothers Falwood.

Curse of the Mistwraith

Third Age 5637: When the Fellowship is concerned by the coming conflict between Lysaer and Arithon, they set wards to conceal the powers of the crown jewels of Rathain. The Sorcerers worry that Arithon's sensitivities, already refined by his Rauven training, would become unmanageable when augmented by the focus stones.

Ships of Merior

Third Age 5645: When Arithon is tasked to inventory the armory in Alestron, he sends Dakar in with the crown jewels, posing as a gem dealer. Dakar balks at this, since the jewels are irreplaceable, but cannot protest without also revealing the latent powers of the gems.

Initiate's Trial

Third Age 5923: High King Gestry becomes attuned and trained to wield the crown jewels of Havish, a pair of gold bracelets inset with rubies, a battered gold circlet, and smaller gems in his state collar. He channels the flux through his crown jewels against the invading True Sect army to provide Arithon with an opening to escape Lanshire. The initial effect fails to deter the True Sect but Gestry's attempt ultimately summons projections of all three Paravian races, halting the fighting and rendering many combatants senseless. The result spares lives on both sides and Dakar hopes that some True Sect soldiers might forsake their faith as a result, although it also causes Gestry's death.

Destiny's Conflict

Third Age 5923: In the summer, Asandir trains High Queen Ceftwinn to wield the crown jewels of Havish.
