King of Amroth

From Paravia Wiki

The ruler of Amroth on Dascen Elur is referred to only as the King of Amroth. In the Chat Area, the author names him Demar s'Ilessid, but this name does not appear in the stories.[1]

The King of Amroth is the father of Lysaer s'Ilessid, and was once married to Talera s'Ahelas. He is described as a king whose sense of justice has been warped through grief and anger, following several centuries of feud with the s'Ffalenn family in Karthan.

Role in the Story

Spoiler warning: Contains plot elements from multiple books in the series.

Third Age 5637: The King is initially shown in a magical flashback by Arithon in the hold of the Briane. The flashback shows him threatening Queen Talera on the night she left him for Avar s'Ffalenn -- he expresses his frustration that she will not allow her dowry (elemental mastery in her offspring) to be used in the feud with Karthan. When Arithon is brought to Amroth addicted to sedatives, the King orders the royal healer to cure him on pain of death. He visits Arithon during the recovery. When Arithon is presented to the royal court of Amroth, the King orders that he be banished through the Worldsend gate after a vision of Talera appears before him.

Third Age 5738: When Lysaer confides in Talith, he reveals that the King lost two brothers, a first wife, and two daughters to the feud with Karthan.

Third Age 5646: It is revealed that the King sent every man, woman, and child suspected of sorcery or sheltering Queen Talera was sent to the execution block.

Traitor's Knot
