Grithen, Son of Tane, is the fourteenth, and final, heir to the deposed Earl of Erdane. He is a young scout who willingly serves on scout duty in the passes of Tysan. Grithen is described as having red hair and broad shoulders. His clothing is made from undyed wolf pelts, and he has red-splashed boots and a fox-tail on his belt.
Role in the Story
|Spoiler warning: Contains plot elements from Curse of the Mistwraith.|
- Grithen is prevented from robbing a caravan on the orders of Lord Tashan. This makes him overeager to attack the next approaching party, which turns out to be Asandir's. When Asandir, Dakar, and the half-brothers cross through the Pass of Orlan to reach Althain Tower, Arithon manipulates Grithen's raid party into holding him for ransom, forcing Asandir to reveal the true identities of the half-brothers. As punishment for this botched raid, he is sent in shame to the camps in the low country. The author suggests that he is also denied his inheritance, but does not state this unequivocably.
- Grithen had two siblings who died on headhunters' spears.
